KS2 Den Building Day
On Thursday 16th June 2016 KS2 held a Den Building Day in aid of Save the Children. We split into our four house teams and worked together to design and create our dens from different materials. Take a look at our photos below:
BEAR worked outside with Mrs Nash (and yes they got wet!) creating dens and shelters from branches, twigs, canes, leaves and polythene, aswell as making a rope swing and hammock.
CLOUD created their designs in the classroom with Miss Harding and then ventured outside to construct their dens from masses of cardboard, decorating and personalising them as they went.
DANE looked with Miss Kitson at the fabrics available and drew designs in small groups of their dens. They then worked hard knotting, stitching and gluing their fabric together to create two dens which became named The Patchwork Pad and The Wannabe Tipi Tent.
MILLS planned and calculated the shape of their den with Mrs Sutton and set about forming an igloo-type structure from plastic milk cartons. This was then moved outside before it got too large to fit through the door!
Towards the end of the afternoon, Mrs Nash built a fire and each house team had a turn at toasting marshmallows over the flames. The children sat in a fire circle enjoying their tasty treat!
The day ended with the opportunity for parents/carers to view the dens and enjoy a BBQ on the school field - albeit in a spell of heavy rain!! Thank you very much to all the parents who helped during the afternoon and those who came along to support the BBQ.
